I lost my job. It's not like I didn't know it was coming. My ultimate boss had made it clear, he didn't care for my department and wanted it disbanded. He admitted that he'd tried to shut it down in 2001, a couple of years before I even took over. Wish I had known that little tidbit when I interviewed. So, with a new board of directors, he finally got his wish. Officially, the termination of my department was for budgetary reasons. Our organization had just moved into a new facility (which I and my department heavily campaigned for), so there have been some finacial issues have come up. I won't say there is any nepotism going on there now, but while I and my department are no more, they HAVE been able to hire the Board president's son, my boss' son and his secretary's son. I apparently didn't have the right pedigree.

Those opening doors you hear about... Well, I had my own share of friends in low places and a couple in high ones too. And they had been telling me about this new place that I should be checking out. The support at the corporation's board all the way to the custodial staff is amazing they said. You'll like it there they said. THEY weren't lying. I was called by my future boss to have the interview at the end of June. He wanted it as soon as possible, so I went and gave him my presentation on the 3rd of July. He had some others to see and said he'd get back with me. He called me the morning of the 6th (that's from Friday morning to Monday morning). When he asked if I could take the job, I asked if I could think about it for a while. I waited at least ten or twenty seconds before I said YES.

So now I've moved from the raggity edge of Ohio to the raggity edge of Indiana. There are a few things I'll miss from my old stomping grounds(some people, some places), but the opportunity here is pretty darn amazing, so I'll adjust. Now all I have to do is not screw this up.
